Four Track Archive Notes
So the process is
very similar to the MiniDisc conversions.
I am taking the stereo out from the Yamaha MT-120S into the Zoom H2
using a RCA to 1/8" stereo cable. I
am recording the files onto an SD card in the Zoom H2.
In starting the
digitization I was a little concerned with how to organize the process. I know it doesn't really matter much, but I
didn't want to have tapes from bands jumbled all willy-nilly. Not only would that sort of make it harder to
retrieve the actual grouping of tapes for specific bands, but it would increase
the time that it would take to set and mix the tapes themselves as they are
being digitized. At that time my
recording "methods" could generously be described as haphazard, but
typically I used the same track configurations and set ups for each band, so
many of the tapes from the same band should have the same configuration, making
the digitizing process a little more stream lined.
Also, grouping bands
together allows for easier sharing right after the digitization process. Sharing at that stage could result in more
conversations about the band when the thoughts are fresh and would be a good prompt
for conversation, instead of having a brief interaction every month or two.
